Some practical tips on getting the most out of AdWords.
1. Link AdWords and Google Analytics
Link your AdWords and Google Analytics so you can get some idea of what people do when they click your ad.
2. Bid on valuable keywords
Review your keywords to see which ones are getting the higher click through rates and see if these also have a low bounce rate – this will demonstrate a good level of engagement and interest. Bid more aggressively on these keywords and use exact match if feasible as the cost will be lower.
3. Mobile optimised ads
Set up mobile versions of your ads. If you don’t you’re potentially missing out on over 50% of your visitors. This may mean creating a mobile friendly landing page if your site isn’t mobile optimised.
4. Review actual search terms against keywords list
Look at the actual search terms people used to find your ad and modify your keywords accordingly.
Keywords » Details » Search Terms » All
5. Ad Extensions
Use ad extensions to increase your ad real estate and make the ads more enticing and informative.
Here the top ad is in position 1 and will have paid more for the keyword “indian takeaway dublin” but the ad in position 2 is using call out and sitelink extensions and is more informative.
6. Negative keywords
Add negative keywords so your ads do not show for irrelevant search terms e.g. jobs, free, cheap etc.
